When a hotel rolls out the red carpet for a special guest, the carpet just keeps on rolling around the town! Can it be stopped?

This classic story by Rex Parkin will keep your preschoolers on the edge of their seats; it is sure to elicit a smile or two, too.

The Red Carpet lapbook contains lots of learning possibilities for your preschool student.

The Red Carpet Lapbook Printables

  1. Red Carpet on the Loose
Use the city map printable to discuss the various buildings and people that make a city. After your discussion, let your student trace all over the roads with a red crayon to show where a crazy red carpet could go!
  2. Traffic Light
What are the three different colors of lights on a traffic light? What does each one mean? (red=stop; yellow=slow; green=go!) Use the traffic light tab book to discuss traffic lights and to review the colors red, yellow, and green.
  3. Police Officers Mini-book
What do police officers do? Use this book to discuss the role police officers play in keeping our communities safe.
  4. What Is Red?
The carpet in this story is red. This accordion book contains several images of red things: lobster, firetruck, stop sign, and strawberries. Can your student think of other things that are red? Continue the learning fun by playing a game of “I Spy” something red.
  5. Learning Directions: Left and Right
Use the printable arrows to introduce the concepts of left and right. You might want to sing the “Hokey Pokey” together a few times to reinforce these concepts.
  6. Rhyming Words
This book is stuffed full of rhyming words. Teach your preschool student how to listen to rhymes. Use the flapbook provided to reinforce these rhymes: floor/door; room/broom; and shoe/blue.
