Benefits of Playing with the Space Playdough Mats

When we think of playdough play, we know that all the squishing, twisting, and turning boosts fine motor skills, but playing with playdough also develops creativity, problem-solving skills, and language.

Playdough play encourages experimenting and problem-solving. Children can try different approaches to completing the tasks without breaking anything—because it’s just dough!
This set of space playdough mats will also encourage language and literacy. Students will learn or review some new vocabulary words such as alien and planet.
Students will also learn or review these color words: yellow, blue, gray, red, white, purple, orange, and green.
Creating with playdough is also wonderful for children because it gives them a sense of pride when they complete a task.

What’s Included in the Space Colors Playdough Mats?

This file includes eight playdough mats with an outer space theme. Your student will create various items such as a planet, a star, and an alien.

Each mat has directions for your student to create a space object with playdough.

For instance, the first mat directs: Make a yellow moon.

The second mat directs: Make a blue rocket.

How to Get Started with the Free Space Playdough Mats

It’s super simple to get started with this learning activity.

Laminate the playdough mats or put each one in a dry erase pocket or page protector.
Give your student playdough and one playdough mat.
Encourage your student to create the space items with the color directed on the mat.
