How to Use the Shell Shapes Tracing Worksheets

You can simply print the pages and let your student trace the shell shapes with a crayon, pencil, or marker.

However, if you want to reuse the pages, laminate them or use them with Dry Erase Sleeves or page protectors and a dry erase marker.

If your student isn’t ready to write, your student can use a variety of manipulatives to “trace” the shell shapes.

You can try yarn, pipe cleaners, playdough, or even tiny shells to place around the shapes.

Here is a sample of the tracing pages with Wikki Stix. Wikki Stix are waxed yarn, and they are a fun manipulative to use with these tracing pages.

Benefits of the Shell Shapes Tracing Pages

These shell shape tracing pages will help your student practice fine motor skills. They can also help your student with other skills.

You can use the pages to teach the shape names to your student. “Look at this shape. It has eight sides. Let’s count them. What is the name of a shape that has eight sides?”

You can also use these pages to help your student analyze two-dimensional shapes. Ask questions. Is a star like a heart? How are they the same? How are they different? Can you find any stars in this room? Can you find any hearts in this room?

Which one of the shapes looks the most like an actual shell?

These tracing pages will also help your preschool or kindergarten student learn the shape names. Ten shapes are included in this printable set:

  • diamond
  • rectangle
  • square
  • circle
  • star
  • oval
  • triangle
  • heart
  • hexagon
  • octagon
