Catch me, catch me, if you can…
As Jan Brett fans, Rebekah and Josiah at There Will be a $5 Charge for Whining worked through The Gingerbread Baby and lapbook from Homeschool Share. (By the way, I love the blog name! I would be one rich woman!!)
Originally, the lapbook at Homeschool Share was written for The Gingerbread Baby only. The lapbook that Josiah completed was this version. The lapbook is now a gingerbread unit including many other books. Some of the new components of the lapbook are not pictured below.
Josiah did a beautiful job (with the help of his mom) in completing this lapbook. I love all the extra decoration, scrapbook papers, glitter, etc. that Rebecca considered “overkill” in this book. It makes it so pleasing to the eye and I’m sure they had a lot of fun with this book!
They used several folders glued together to make an exceptional lapbook that Josiah can be very proud of!
In the lapbook, you can learn many literary concepts such as setting, characters, conflict, plot and even getting the opportunity to write your own Gingerbread Story.
I love how they created this little pocket where the 2 folders came together! You can use this pocket to hold your story sequence cards from the unit, or whatever other gingerbread themed pieces on find on other websites.
This is a very cute way to display spelling words for the unit.
I love the creative way they used the pictures of the gingerbread babies – “It Just Makes Scents”. Josiah glued a sprinkle or two of different spices for “scratch and sniff” type feature. How creative!!
Be sure to bring baking into this study! There is a book on uses of ginger and an opportunity to make gingerbread. Make enough for cookies to enjoy and to build a gingerbread house!
Other components to the revised lapbook at Homeschool Share:
Study of the letter “g” (hard and soft sounds)
Drawing of your own gingerbread boy as he is being eaten – piece by piece
Matching game and other word games
Math and counting
If only I still had littles! This would be such a fun unit for the Christmas season.
