January’s Making the Days Count Activity Calendar

Don’t you just love new things?   As a Christian, I know that each morning brings new mercies, new beginnings, new chances, but there’s something about the start of a fresh, new year that is extra special.   Perhaps it is the hope that is contained in the start of another year.   We reflect on the past year and often resolve to do things differently in the new year.   The bright beginning of  a new year sparks a chance to renew our commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a chance to do more with our loved ones, a chance to rejuvenate our homeschooling.  We are so blessed to have this time with our children. Let’s endeavor to hug them a little more, to remember that the education of our children is about more than just the three Rs, to remember to make each day count.

If I Had My Child to Raise Over Again
By Diana Loomans

If I had my child to raise over again,

I’d finger paint more, and point the finger less.

I’d do less correcting, and more connecting.

I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.

I would care to know less, and know to care more.

I’d take more hikes and fly more kites.

I’d stop playing serious, and seriously play.

I’d run through more fields, and gaze at more stars.

I’d do more hugging, and less tugging.

I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.

I’d build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I’d teach less about the love of power,

And more about the power of love.

It matters not whether my child is big or small,

From this day forth, I’ll cherish it all.
