Over at Homeschool Adventures, Tawnee uses Sonlight as her core literature curriculum Recently, her daughter completed Homeschool Share’s The Hundred Dresses, after reading the book for her Sonlight studies. What a great way to combine Sonlight with lapbooking!
The book is about a girl from Poland who is made fun of for wearing the same dress to school everyday. This is a great opportunity to address the issue of bullying and how it effects others. Children can be so cruel, but as you see in the story, it’s not too late to stand up for someone else. Talk with your child about what friendship means to them and what it takes to be a real friend.
In this book, your child will study Poland – where is it and what does the flag look like? This is also a great opportunity to look at the Great Depression and how many were so poor, they didn’t have more than one dress, or one outfit. There is a family history book for your child to complete. Do you have family members still living that remember the Great Depression? Take this time to interview them!
Very nice job!
