May is filled with so many fun days!  May gives us reasons to play with Mr. Potato Head, learn about the Kentucky Derby, read the Wizard of Oz, learn about volcanoes, be a detective, or do some composting . . . choose a few special days from the calendar that your students will enjoy and make your days count!

Show and Tell ~ The Carrot Seed!

As spring quickly approaches, it’s time to begin thinking about your garden.  If you’re like me, you’ve been planning what seeds you’ll plant for the last several months.  It might be a great time to teach your children more about how a plant grows from a tiny seed.  A great book to help teach this miracle is The Carrot Seed.  Tracy at Homeschool Lite used the book and Homeschool Share’s lapbook with her daughter, Maggie.

Your little one will learn more about the letter C, including other vegetables that begin with the letter C.

Here is the lapbook opened.  You learn what plants need to grow, get a closer look at the colors orange and brown, and make a cool book showing a carrot coming out of the ground.

Here is a close up of the different kinds and sizes of seeds.  This is a great opportunity to go out and plant your own carrots and other seeds in your garden and use the next several months to watch them grow.

I love her little face.  Doesn’t she look proud?  Great job, Maggie!

Tracy is a mother to 4 children, her youngest is Maggie.  She was born with a thyroid disease, VACTERL, but that doesn’t let that stop her!  She loves to learn and can keep up with her older siblings.
