When I Was Young in the Mountains Story Problems

1. Twenty men work in the coal mine. Five stop for a break.
How many are still working?
2. Grandmother's cornbread recipe calls for one cup cornmeal, one cup
self-rising flour, one egg, and one cup sweet milk. Double her recipe and
write it on a recipe card.
3. Grandmother has two pounds of pinto beans. She wants to divide
the beans into half pound packages. How many packages will she have?
4. Four people are eating supper. Each person has eaten two servings
of friend okra. How many servings of okra have been consumed?
5. I bought two pounds of butter from Mrs. Crawford. Each pound cost
fifty cents. How much money did I spend? How much change did I
receive from a five dollar bill?
6. It takes ten pails of water to fill one tub. How many pails are
needed to fill two tubs? (three tubs? four tubs?)
7. There were twenty baby chicks. Two were eaten by a snake and one
got lost. How many baby chicks are left?
8. Grandmother prepared four cups of cocoa. A serving is one half
cup. How many servings of cocoa did Grandmother prepare?
9. We sing two hymns each night before going to bed. How many hymns
do we sing each week?
10. Four children were swimming in the creek. Two more jumped in the
water. How many children are now swimming in the creek?
