Parallel Construction with Blocks
originally posted on
Ami's blog
I hesitated to teach this lesson (found in your FIAR manual) to my five year
old, but then the word construction kept rolling around in my head, and I
thought of a way to relay the concept...blocks! You can use anything (legos,
megablocks, wooden blocks, etc.).

I taped
the phrases from the story to the blocks making sure that the phrases that
matched were on similar blocks. I demonstrated how the conversation between the
mother and son was balanced as I built the blocks up. After I was done, both
sides were the same and we had a parallel construction! Elijah has rebuilt the
towers over and over again this week and read the words on the blocks. He may
not fully understand, but we're building a foundation!
