Great Wall of China Construction
Supplies Needed:
popsicle or craft sticks
superglue (use at your own risk! You
may want to use Elmer's Glue or craft glue instead)
yarn
garden dirt
Directions:
Lay six popsicle sticks side by side on a piece of newspaper. Lay two more
sticks horizontally across them (one at the top and one at the bottom and
superglue into place. Make sure to put a dot of glue on each stick. Repeat three
more times so that you have four wooden walls made out of popsicle sticks. Stand
the walls up so that they form a box. Use a drop of superglue at each corner to
hold the walls together. wrap yarn around your wooden box and knot it to keep
the walls together. set the wooden box on a newspaper, baking sheet, or other
surface. pack it full of dirt- as hard as you can. you may want to add stones,
grass, or other ingredients to make the wall stronger. when the box is full of
packed dirt, lift it gently straight up. You should have a section of strong
dirt wall that will stand by itself. just like the dirt sections of the great
wall of china. Experiment- can you make another section of wall touching the
first section? Can you make one on top of it?
