Butterfly Life Cycle
Materials
Empty toilet paper roll
Construction paper
Scissors
Crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.
Glue
Pipe cleaners (4-5 inch pieces)
Tongue depressor (or other craft stick)
Instructions
Decorate the toilet paper role to look like a butterfly chrysalis.
Trace your student's hands (these will be the wings) on pieces of construction
paper; cut them out. Use drawing materials to decorate the wings.
Glue the hands to the tongue depressor.
Bend the pipe cleaner in half and glue it to the top of the tongue depressor to
form the antennae of the butterfly. After the glue has dried, gently curl the
wings inward so you can slide the cardboard tube around them. Slowly slide
the tube on and off the butterfly to imitate the chrysalis emerging into an
adult butterfly.
