Grocery Store Lapbook Activities

The Grocery Store Lapbook includes a variety of educational activities for your preschool or kindergarten student. Use the grocery store as a springboard to learn about colors, shapes, and money. The grocery store lapbook activities will also have your student playing games, tracing, and learning rhymes and songs.

Favorite Fruit
Use this petal book and pictures provided to pick five favorite fruits. Write the name of the fruit under the picture if you so choose

Favorite Vegetable
Use this petal book and pictures provided to pick five favorite vegetables. Write the name of the fruit under the picture if you so choose.

Color Match
This is a matching game. Place the correct colored fruit or vegetable into the correct color pocket.

My Cooking Project
Pick out a recipe from your favorite cookbook or website. Review the recipe with your child and make a shopping list. Take a field trip to the grocery store to pick out the ingredients. Once you are back home make the recipe. Use the file folder to copy or print and paste your recipe! If you want take a photo of your finished project and add it to the file along with your recipe.

Money/Grocery Store Game
When we go to the grocery store we spend money. This is a good way to introduce money to your child. Print out your play money from one of the site above and store it in the money pocket.  Review what each coin is with your child. Play store and practice counting with the dollar bills. Use the picture cards and vary the amount you “charge” your child for each item. Picture cards can be stored in the picture pocket.

Healthy Eating
Eating healthy is important for a healthy body. Things your body needs every day are fruit, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. Limiting sweets and fatty foods is important for a healthy body. This activity has two mini-books and pictures of different types of food. Have your child glue examples of good foods in the “Healthy Foods” mini-book. Do the same with the “Unhealthy Foods” mini-book.

Food Groups
Use the matchbooks to introduce the concept of the five different food groups. (Remember, meat includes things like beans, eggs, and peanut butter, too.)

Songs and Poems
Enjoy teaching your little student the songs and poems in the simple fold books. For extra fun, add hand motions!

Grocery Store Pretend Play
Be sure to snag this set of fun Grocery Store Pretend Play Printables. Your student will love pretending to shop and pretending to be a grocer.
