Here we are to July! What things come to mind when you think of the month of July? Picnics, watermelon, ice cream, sprinklers, fireworks, hot dogs and s’mores, county fairs and small town festivals are just a few things I think of.
We’ve got another great calendar for you that’s filled with fun ideas and new topics to explore to make your days count! Choose a few and enjoy your time with the kids!
We have had an amazing time with our new chicks and learning all about these amazing creatures!! We used the Chicken Lapbook and the wonderful Egg Adventure post Wende wrote as the starting points for our chicken unit study.

We did some amazing egg experiments! We did our first ever egg drop! Fun! We let eggs sit in vinegar for several days to see what would happen. Have you ever tried circling an egg completely in your hand and SQUEEZING as hard as you can?? Well, we hadn’t either! But, we learned that God designed eggs like He did for this purpose! God never ceases to amaze me. None of us could break an egg!
We have learned so much from having our chickens. The combination of having the baby chicks, building the coop and the learning we’ve done has been one of our favorite unit studies ever!! Learning comes to life with unit studies, don’t you agree?

Almost everyone has a family gathering or reunion to go to in the summer. The week before the big event, you can spend time learning about family!
Make Family Reunions a memorable study as you discuss family traditions, examine your family tree, make a map of where your relatives live, share family stories and create a scrapbook or photo album together. You can also squeeze in some cooking lessons and take your finished products to the reunion. Continue the fun by asking family members to bring photos, recipes, etc. to the gathering to share with your student!

Summer is the perfect time to study all things creeping, crawling, and flying. Lots of children are fascinated by caterpillars and the metamorphosis they undergo.
Your little learners can enjoy our Very Hungry Caterpillar unit study and printables.
Your older students will absorb lots of information from our Butterfly Lapbook lessons and printables.
Butterfly Lifecycle Craft
Check out this simple pasta craft depicting the lifecycle of the butterfly.
Supplies Needed: shell pasta, bow tie pasta, spiral pasta, 3 navy beans, a twig, green construction paper (for leaves), and a paper plate.
Directions: Ask your student to draw a + on her paper plate. Write the four stages of the lifecycle on the plate: eggs, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. Cut out two leaves from the construction paper. Glue one to the eggs section. Add three beans for eggs. Glue another leaf to the caterpillar section. Add the spiral pasta. Glue the twig to the chrysalis section. Add the shell pasta. Finally, glue the bow tie pasta to the butterfly section. Add antenna with a marker.
Easy and effective!
